girli calls for accountability in video for powerful new single ‘Slap On The Wrist’
The confronting track was inspired by “the fear women live with every day in a society where male violence is the norm.”

girli has returned with new track ‘Slap On The Wrist’, a rallying cry against sexual harassment and a rage-filled reminder of the levity with which it’s so often treated.
It follows recent single ‘Better Undressed’ (which landed in November last year) to be the second instalment of the alt-popper’s new era - one in which she promises to sheds the pop gloss of second album ‘Matriarchy’ in favour of rawer, more human work.
Inspired by the day-to-day reality of women the world over, the song pulls absolutely no punches when it comes to vocalising the systemic failures of modern society in protecting them from harassment, assault, and harm. “I wrote ‘Slap On The Wrist’ about the fear women live with every day in a society where male violence is the norm, and the legal system does so little to listen to and protect victims,” girli has asserted.
“It’s about perpetrators of sexual assault getting away with a slap on the wrist while survivors have to deal with being blamed for their assailant’s actions and the fear that follows knowing that abusers most often face no repercussions. It’s for any woman who’s walked home with their keys in their fist because they know that the world won’t protect them.”
‘Slap On The Wrist’ has also arrived accompanied by a powerful video - made in collaboration with activist platform Cheer Up Luv - that spotlights the song’s central message by grounding its lyrics in the lived experiences of real people. Watch it for yourself here:
