Goat bring the recorder-led psych-jams with ‘Union of Mind and Soul’
It’s a jaunty reworking of a track from new album ‘Requiem’.
Starting life with the kind of trilling, infuriatingly catchy recorder line that might appeal to an overzealous child, and throwing in a kazoo-effect guitar solo for good measure, ‘Union of Mind and Soul’ is perhaps the most song-like song Goat have ever written. As in, y’know, it’s got verses and hooks and stuff, and steps away from their ritualistic jams of past albums.
‘Union of Mind and Soul’ doesn’t feature on Goat’s upcoming third album ‘Requiem’. It’s actually a reworking of the opening track ‘Union of Sun and Moon’; swapping in the original’s eeriness for something far more jolly and bounding.
The mysterious Swedes - who claim to be from a tiny remote village called Korpilombolo - release their new album ‘Requiem’ on 7th October.
We’re premiering ‘Union of Mind and Soul’ here on DIY. Have a listen, and be prepared to have that recorder melody stuck in your noggin all day.
