Grizzly Bear at work on “more adventurous” new material

Ed Droste tells The Standard they’re heading in a “different aesthetic direction”.

Grizzly Bear’s Ed Droste has confirmed that the group are currently working on new material, stating the group are heading into a different aesthetic direction.

The follow-up to 2012’s ‘Shields’ is expected soon, with Droste stating that the group are “feeling more adventurous with the sonic directions,” however, Droste was quick to state it wouldn’t be a gigantic departure. “It’s in the beginning stages,” he said. “Only a couple songs have started to take shape and it’s gotta be like, a good dozen or so before we get the picture.”

Droste also revealed that the group are now living between separate US coasts - he and Chris Taylor are based in L.A., while Christopher Bear and Daniel Rossen still live in New York. Describing the song-writing process as “more fractured”, Droste revealed that the distance causes him “great anxiety”. “When I’m stressed about it, I have to remember that every time we try to do a new album I have huge anxiety. Every time it’s like, ‘Woah, that was a crazy process, we have to do something different.’”
