Hear Josef Salvat cover ‘Diamonds’ by Rihanna

Today sees the release of Australia via London newcomer Josef Salvat’s new EP, ‘In Your Prime’. It’s arriving ahead of a 2015 full-length, containing two previously unheard tracks, early single ‘This Life’ and a special cover of ‘Diamonds’ by Rihanna.

The latter is streaming now, placing RiRi’s original in a sparkling, piano-led environment.

Speaking about ‘Diamonds’, Salvat said: “I love it. I think it’s one of Rihanna’s best, as a record as well as vocally. And it was written by Sia. Sia’s first albums soundtracked my adolescence and through her music she’s been an incredibly influential figure in my musical life.

“The song itself is such a beautiful moment, finding refuge in another person and submitting together. It’s something I’ve experienced a lot in my life and I try to write about it often. I didn’t feel the need to convey what a great pop song it is. Rihanna did that a ruled the world with it. I just wanted to slow it down and dwell in it, try to communicate the weight the lyrics held for me.”
