James Blake plays Maida Vale session

He brought eight tracks to BBC Radio 1 for their new headliners live series.

There’s just no keeping our Jamesy away from the airwaves. Mere days after wrapping up his last residency on BBC Radio 1 (sob!) James Blake returned to Maida Vale, playing eight songs in session.

He was performing as part of a new series hosted by Annie Mac, which focuses on “the headliners of today and tomorrow”. And fresh from headlining Field Day, and topping the bill at Green Man later this summer, James Blake more than fits the bill for the former.

James Blake played eight songs in total, including ‘Retrograde’ and his Chance the Rapper collaboration ‘Life Round Here’ from his 2013 album ‘Overgrown’. He also performed a load of songs from his newest album ‘The Colour in Anything’.

Earlier today, James Blake announced a UK headline tour -head here for the full deets.

Elsewhere on the show, Wolf Alice played the likes of ‘Bro’ and ‘Giant Peach’ in their own live session. They also step up to ‘official big deal headliner status’ later this summer, heading up By The Sea festival.

Listen to James Blake’s Maida Vale session here, kicking off around the 1:17 mark. Wolf Alice fans - they play at the very beginning of the program.
