James Blake’s 1-800 Dinosaur returns to Radio 1 Residency
Hear the producer interview DJ Badger and play Vince Staples.

After a short time away, James Blake and his 1-800 Dinosaur crew have returned to Radio 1 Residency duty.
Last night (9th July), Blake and co. followed a run from late 2014/early 2015 with their return to the airwaves. The producer opted to play songs as far apart as Bing Crosby & David Bowie’s Christmas collaboration, Kanye West’s ‘Jesus Walks’ (recorded at Abbey Road), plus cuts from new names Real Lies and Happa. Vince Staples ‘Norf Norf’ also gained a play, while there was time to interview the hotly-tipped and ultra-elusive biggest name in town, DJ Badger. Watch out for that one.
This was 1-800 Dinosaur’s first Residency since a controversial run of DJ shows earlier in the year, where Frank Ocean (billed as “BOYSDONTCRY”) was billed to make an appearance. Some reports had him down as being side of stage, but it wasn’t the grand unveiling of new material that many billed it up to be.
The Residency will be available on BBC iPlayer later today - here.
James Blake will play Latitude (16th-19th July), where DIY is an official media partner. Tickets are on sale now. Visit diymag.com/presents for more information.
