Jamie xx to provide score for new ballet at MIF 2015
Producer is providing a backing for an adaptation of Jonathan Safran Foer’s ‘Tree of Codes’.
Manchester International Festival has announced an initial line-up for its 2015 edition, with tickets on sale from 10am tomorrow, 20th November.
Alongside contributions from film director Kevin MacDonald and scientist from the telly Brian Cox, the big draw is Jamie xx’s score for a new ballet, inspired by Jonathan Safran Foer’s ‘Tree of Codes’ novel.
Speaking about the project, Olafur Eliasson (responsible for designing the staging), says: “Clearly Jamie’s music can’t live without movement and space. Clearly Wayne’s choreography can’t live without sound and space. Clearly my art can’t live without sound and movement. Clearly creativity can change the world.”
At 2013’s MIF, The xx took residency for 18 nights, playing intimate shows in a unique underground surrounding to an audience of sixty people.
‘Tree of Codes’ will take place from 2nd-5th July 2015 and 8th-10th July 2015 at Manchester’s Royal Opera House.
Tickets will be on sale via mif.co.uk from 10am, 20th November.
