Kickstarter launched for ‘Here To Be Heard: The Story of The Slits’ documentary
Donations are needed to finalise the film before 7th June.
A Kickstarter campaign for a new documentary on punk trio The Slits has been launched.
Titled, ‘Here To Be Heard: The Story of The Slits’, production of the film began prior to frontwoman Ari Up’s death in 2010, with Jennifer Shagawat acting as executive producer. The funding page states that the documentary is “nearly finished”, with co-creator William E Badgley hoping to raise £19,500 to complete the final stages of production. A statement on the page says:
“Without your help it will be increasingly difficult for this project to live up to it’s full potential. Not just in terms of it’s story, ethos, music and message, but in terms of all the hard work and talent that has been poured into this project already.”
“Ari became more and more obsessed with documenting the band in hopes that she and Jennifer would be able to release a film documenting their art, spirit, and their struggle,” the page continues. “What no one knew at this time was that Ari was very sick and slowly dying of cancer.”
