KINS step into the unknown with ‘Charlie’
London via Stockholm group keep exploring with their latest cut.
KINS have existed for years, but 2015 looks to have been the Stockholm via London group’s breakthrough moment.
With their ‘Cyclical’ EP, darkness swarmed into their process and took over. It increased its grip with ‘Most Definitely’, a fantastic standalone single, giving a new lease of life to ‘Amnesiac’-era Radiohead. The trip continues with ‘Charlie’, proof if ever it was needed that KINS have found an extra gear in the last twelve months.
Like stepping into an endless cloud of fog, there’s a leap into the unknown with ‘Charlie’. On the one hand, it’s KINS at their sweetest and most approachable, but there’s also a lingering air of mystery clouding over. “I won’t hold you down,” Thomas Savage promises, but Alex Crosby’s grizzly, barking synths suggest otherwise. There’s a clever balancing act at play here, and KINS blend light and dark like the best of them.
‘Charlie’ is the latest in KINS’ singles series, leading towards their second LP, due out in 2016.
