Late of the Pier’s Sam Dust unveils new LA Priest track, ‘Oino’
Domino-signed artist rises from the ashes of unsung mid-‘00s heroes.
For the past couple of years, the potential return of Late of the Pier’s been up there with the ‘will he release anything’ Jai Paul debate and the ‘what the fuck happened to’ Jamie T debacle, which fortunately received an answer.
Truth of the matter is, one of the mid-‘00s most beloved - if somewhat unsung - indie heroes simple fizzled out. They didn’t combust or try to strangle each other with glowsticks - they simply decided to move on and try other projects.
LA Priest is one of these. It’s been around since 2007 but it’s just unveiled its first ‘proper’ track in the shape of ‘Oino’, which gained its first play on Zane Lowe’s Radio 1 show.
The project belongs to Sam Dust, who’s been teasing new material for the past 24 hours, via a mind-boggling standalone site, earth-window.org. Anyone emailing the address [email protected] (via Late of the Pier’s Facebook) gained access to the site - a few clicks here, a few clicks there, and they could hear a snippet of ‘Oino’.
The full thing is streaming below. A bundling together of psych-nodding synths and tightly-wound guitar patterns, it’s not the full “Late of the Pier never left” effect, but it’s undoubtedly the next best thing.
