Neu Pick:
LEFTI crafts a slice of euphoric dance-pop on ‘City Heart’
We’ve got the first spin of the Brooklyn producer’s exhilarating new number, featuring Louis Epstein.

Every weekday, DIY’s
new music know-it-all Neu brings
you one essential new release to get obsessed with. Today’s Neu Pick comes from
LEFTI.
As a member of Cobra Starship, Brooklyn producer LEFTI helped to carve some glistening pop
tracks but since striking out on his own, he’s created a deeply layered cross
between house, funk and indie dance. It’s a combination that can be heard on
his remixes, which he’s produced for everyone from Gallant to Big Data and
ASTR, but he’s also crafted a clutch of original tracks too, which came
together for his debut EP ‘Somebody’.
Now LEFTI’s back with his first track since that release,
and he’s teamed up with Louis Epstein for the ride. ‘City Heart’ is full to the
brim with blasts of synths and arpeggiated melodies, as well as a good slab of
funked-up, meaty bass for good measure. It all blends together to become a rush
of contemporary electro-pop with a retro twist that’ll probably provoke more
than a few spontaneous dance moves. Keep your ears peeled too, as there’s even
the faint, echoing tones of what may well be a cowbell in there (seriously, the
return of the cowbell is becoming ever more imminent).
Strap yourself in this burst of pure, neon-lit euphoria, as
we’ve got the premiere of ‘City Heart’ below.
Featuring Yard Act, Death Cab For Cutie, Graham Coxon, Maisie Peters and more.
