Listen: Cyril Hahn Streams ‘Raw Cut’ Track

Recently Neu profiled producer Cyril Hahn is one for the deep cuts. And he’s calling his latest work ‘Raw Cut’.

A couple of questions crop up, namely: When did ‘cut’ start becoming such a habitual term for song? Secondly, can we use the term ‘groove’ instead?

‘Raw Cut’ is groovy. Its opening two minutes shun the producer’s famed ability to turn conventional pop tracks onto their side. Everything is dark and pulsing. Hahn soon switches things up by adding a fair chunk of soul-inflected samples and beats x 1000. So many deep, groovy, beat-heavy cuts. The guy knows what he’s doing.
