New project from Scott Reitherman’s basks in dance-backed sadness.

Listen: Pillar Point Streams ‘Cherry’ Track

Scott Reitherman’s Pillar Point project is a follow on from Throw Me the Statue, a cruelly underrated alt-pop outfit that didn’t quite get their run of luck. If Scott’s previous band were a sunny side up kind of prospect, his new route ends up looking elsewhere. ‘Eyeballs’ - the project’s track unveiled back in 2013 - is dance-oriented, all the better for it. But Scott’s vocals stay rooted to a melancholic slump, sadly cooing over jagged guitars and vibrant percussion. It’s a strange juxtaposition, but Pillar Point wouldn’t be nearly as exciting without it.

‘Cherry’ matches up, latching onto the sweet dose of its namesake without choking on the nasty seed bit.

‘Eyeballs’ and ‘Cheery’ are both taken from a debut album - self-titled - that comes out through Polyvinyl on 3rd March.
