Listen: Plastic Mermaids Stream ‘Polaroids’ Track
Isle of Wight group’s debut track steals the heart - listen now.

What’s heartfelt is heartfelt. What attempts to be heartfelt with warped intentions comes off false. Plastic Mermaids’ debut song ‘Polaroids’ ticks all the ‘emotional wrench’ boxes. Strings. Fluttering pianos. Semi-falsetto’ed vocals. Autobiographical lyrics that speak from the soul, etc. etc.
It should come off corny. It does, in places. But that doesn’t stop the Isle of Wight group from standing out in a huge crowd of heart-on-sleevers.
Because ‘Polaroids’ comes from the right place. When it builds into a chiming, atmospheric beast, that’s where things belong. When talk turns to past loves and their bicycles and oh-this-is-getting-kind-of-sickly, it doesn’t drag. It’s very exciting to hear a group pushing such simple ideas so effectively.
