Listen: The Orwells Share ‘Barely Legal’ Strokes Cover

Chicago rock ‘n rollers recorded the cover aged 15 at their first ever practice.

Riotous Chicago types The Orwells have indulged in telling their backstory to fans. It involves singer Mario never showing up to the band’s first practice because he wanted to eat a burrito with his ‘gurl’, Mario then eventually showing up the following week, and a group of guys aged 15 recording this super-tight cover of The Strokes.

‘Barely Legal’ is a tricky thing to cover. Don’t let the flawlessly drunk-as-hell energy of The Strokes’ ‘Is This It’ fool you.

The Orweels’ backstory goes like this, then.

‘henry was telling mario he was in a 4 piece band and they were looking for a singer, mario said cool you little bitch. henry then asked mario if he’d wanna give it a shot. mario said yes. ‘okay’ said hurbert, ‘practice is friday.’ FAST FORWARDto FRIDAY: mario never shows up, he instead went and ate a burrito at chipolte with his gurl. ‘fuck that mario kid’ we said.’
