Listen: Wye Oak Announce ‘Shriek’ Album, Stream ‘The Tower’

New album promises to contain 0% guitars - lead track ‘The Tower’ suggests they’ve been shunned for a reason.

Jenn Wasner and Andy Stack’s Wye Oak have announced the details of their new album ‘Shriek’. Coupled with the excellent artwork, right, the record’s led by ‘The Tower’, a curious new track that suggests the band have been experimenting for at least 95% of the time since 2011 LP ‘Civilian’.

Fragments of Wasner’s recent sugar-sweet electronic stylings as Dungeonesse work their way in, but the harsh, rhythmic staple of Wye Oak’s sound hasn’t given way. There’s a complete absence of guitars (something that spans across the entire album apparently), with most of instrumentation arriving via barking, primal strings.

Wye Oak, ‘The Tower’:

01 “Before”
02 “Shriek”
03 “The Tower”
04 “Glory”
05 “Sick Talk”
06 “Schools Of Eyes”
07 “Despicable Animal”
08 “Paradise”
09 “I Know The Law”
10 “Logic Of Color”

‘Shriek’ is released this April through City Slang (28th) and Merge (29th, US).
