Listen: Xiu Xiu Announce New Album, Stream ‘Stupid in the Dark’

Jamie Stewart’s Xiu Xiu have never been afraid of going to extremes, but new album ‘Angel Guts: Red Classroom’ comes with the statement that the record represents ‘the death of Xiu Xiu.’

‘When the heart has stopped beating, only the soul remains to carry on.’

The album’s title is taken from a Japanese pornographic film. Xiu Xiu’s signature stabs of industrial force are a given, but lead track ‘Stupid in the Dark’ comes with a melodic edge, with Stewart diving between whispered purrs and effect-drenched chants. By the track’s conclusion, it’s a rhythmic spree of high-pitched, robotic squeals.

‘Angel Guts: Red Classroom’ is released via Bella Union in the UK on 3rd February. Polyvinyl release the record on 4th February in North America.
