Loma announce their debut album with ‘Black Willow’

It’s a new project from Shearwater’s Jonathan Meiburg and Cross Record.

Last year, Shearwater and Cross Record went on tour together, and now the project of Emily Cross and Dan Duszynski and Shearwater singer Jonathan Meiburg have teamed up for a brand new project, Loma.

Their self-titled debut record is coming out on 16th February via Sub Pop, and it’s the product of the trek around the globe that the trio have taken together in recent times. The trio came together in a house in Texas, soon realising that they could release an album. Meiburg said: “There was something powerful about the combination of the three of us and very different from either of our bands. But I think we were afraid to say so out loud, for fear of jinxing it”.

As well as announcing the album, the trio have shared a video for its lead single ‘Black Willow’, directed by Andrew McGlennon. It’s the album’s closer and a defiant marching song that sees Cross singing “When I walk/ I carry a diamond blade”. The clip itself is an equally hypnotic watch.
