Marques Toliver has put together a 14-track mixtape, entitled ‘Studying For My Ph.D.’ Have a listen - and/or download - using the player above.
Speaking of the mixture, he says: ‘I wanted to find beauty not in order and neatness. The first track goes by the name of CHAOS. Multiple tracks where chosen for the opening song, which is anchored by Roberta Flack’s ‘I am the Girl’ along with ‘Keep it Between Us’ from Kelly Rowland’s Sophomore album, sprinkled with a pinch of Beyoncé’s hit single, Baby Boy. The choir that can be heard weaving in and out of CHAOS is taken from a music exercise I found online about harmony.’
Toliver is currently hard at work on his debut album, which will be released via Bella Union in 2012. It will follow on from his debut EP ‘Butterflies Are Not Free’.
