mary in the junkyard announce debut album 'Role Model Hermit'; share lead single 'Crash Landing'

Experimental art-rockers mary in the junkyard have announced that their debut album, ‘Role Model Hermit’, will be arriving on 3rd July via AMF Records, and have also marked the occasion by sharing its lead single ‘Crash Landing’.

The project will act as a full-length successor to the trio’s acclaimed 2024 EP ‘this old house’, and was recorded over summer last year with producer Oli Bayston. Building on their early reputation for evocative world-crafting and multi-modal creativity, the band have described ‘Role Model Hermit’ as a record “full of stories, memories and past lives” which they hope listeners “can get lost in, like a forest or a cave, where you can shelter inside for while to rest and recover.”

A hauntingly beautiful introduction to the LP, post-breakup ballad ‘Crash Landing’ sets frontwoman Clari Freeman-Taylor’s arresting, distinctive vocals atop a bed of soaring strings and trip-hop drums, painting a potent picture of restless fragility.

“‘Crash Landing’ was written when we fell in love with the warm low drones of the harmonium,” Clari notes. “At the time we were listening a lot to Life Without Buildings on tour, so I think I was channeling some chirpy scatty poetry when we were jamming. This one is really joyful for me, it is all about change and growth.”
