Matt Berninger announces second solo album ‘Get Sunk’
The National frontman will release the follow-up to 2020’s ‘Serpentine Prison’ later this spring.
The National frontman Matt Berninger has returned with news of a brand new solo album: the esteemed lyricist will release ‘Get Sunk’ on 30th May via Book / Concord Records.
Written and produced alongside Grammy-winning producer and engineer Sean O’Brien, his second solo full-length will follow on from his 2020 release ‘Serpentine Prison’, and includes appearances from a cast of friends and collaborators, such as Hand Habits’ Meg Duffy, Ronboy’s Julia Laws, Beirut trumpeter Kyle Resnick, producer Booker T Jones, and The Walkmen’s Walter Martin and Paul Maroon.
The ten-track record was apparently born after “a long period of writer’s block and self-disgust. I just got sick of asking myself ‘Why am I like this?’”, and - according to the press release - “is not necessarily an autobiographical album, [but] the narrator is processing how he became himself”.
The record comes previewed by its majestic, detail-filled first single ‘Bonnet Of Pins’, which you can hear below.
