Matt Helders gives update on new Arctic Monkeys album

We won’t have “another five years” to wait for a new record, he reckons.

It was a lengthy five year wait between the last two Arctic Monkeys albums, but drummer Matt Helders reckons we won’t have quite so long to wait for the band to release album no. seven.

When asked by Australian site Music Feeds whether he thinks they’ll be another half-decade wait for new music, Matt explained: “I don’t think so. I think that break was based on various circumstances and that was sort of what we needed at the time. But it’s not a pattern we’re going to get used to as a band. We like being in the studio. We’re keen on making albums.”

He added: “We’ll talk about what we’ll do next. There’s no real concrete plan at the moment. We’re all enjoying it a lot, we know we want to do some writing at some point but there’s nothing really. We haven’t really talked about it yet.

“I suppose when we’re back together on these last couple of tours we’ll start thinking about that. But yeah, there’s nothing actually planned yet.”

The band’s most recent album ‘Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino’ came out last year after the release of fifth album ‘AM’ in 2013.

Meanwhile, Matt has recently emerged with new project Good Cop Bad Cop and debut track ‘Silk & Leather’ alongside Milburn frontman Joe Carnall. They’re set to release their debut self-titled album on 29th March. See their upcoming tour dates here.
