Matt Maltese returns with ‘Curl Up & Die’

The South London crooner shares his first music of 2019, and it’s a good’un.

He’s back, baby! Following his incredible debut ‘Bad Contestant’ last year, one of the UK’s most promising songwriters is finally giving us the new music we’ve been craving. Cheers bbs.

Returning with ‘Curl Up & Die’ today, Matt Maltese once again dives deep into all the #feels, exploring that all-encompassing feeling of being madly in love with someone in the delicate piano-led ballad with lyrics like “I worshipped the ground you walked on / I’d cut off my ear for you / I worshipped the towel you dried on / I’d kill all my friends for you.” Been there, hon.

“It’s about the disgusting, absurd force of love,” he explains of the shimmering new track. “When the feeling is so all consuming that you’d happily crouch over and be nothing but a chair for them to sit on.”

‘Curl Up & Die’ was recorded and produced in Matt’s Elephant & Castle bedroom studio, and it’s the first time we get to witness his own production skills. “My time spent with Alex Burey and Jonathan Rado in the past helped me feel like limitations could be a good thing,” he says of working on the production of his new music, focussing on “really simple things like trusting your gut when something sounds good but looks bad”.
