Mercury Prize 2014
Mercury Prize nominee Anna Calvi: “I don’t mind losing again”
This year’s award marks Calvi’s second nomination, having previously made the cut with her 2011 debut.
Anna Calvi has released two albums to date, her self-titled debut in 2011, and the follow up ‘One Breath’ earlier this year - and both have been nominated for the Mercury Prize.
Unfortunately, she’s yet to win one - ‘Anna Calvi’ was trumped by PJ Harvey’s ‘Let England Shake’. “I’ve experienced losing,” Calvi tells DIY’s folk on the red carpet at this year’s ceremony, “so I don’t mind losing again.”
As for who her preferred winner is, it’s on-and-off bookies’ favourite Kate Tempest. “She’s bringing poetry to a wider audience,” she explains.
Other acts nominated for the Mercury Prize 2014 include Bombay Bicycle Club, Royal Blood, FKA twigs, Jungle and Young Fathers. The winner will be announced later this evening (Wednesday 29th October) at the Roundhouse, London ceremony.
