Summer no-mate

Metronomy’s Joe Mount turned down production from Josh Homme

Why did he turn it down? No one knows (well, actually Joe explains it quite sensibly - take a look).

Metronomy’s Joe Mount turned down production from Josh Homme

Metronomy released latest album ‘Summer 08’ this month, and it turns out Queens of the Stone Age’s Josh Homme could have been at the production desk.

The QOTSA frontman, who also produced Iggy Pop’s recent album ‘Post Pop Depression’ had been sending love letters to Joe, but the London via France musician wanted to stay in the driver’s seat.

He told Classic Pop: “It was a very tentative ‘Let’s make a record together!’ approach. The thing is, Josh and I are both control freaks, so I don’t think it would work. Josh is a really great musician, who’s made some fantastic music. But his music always sounds identifiably like him, and I fear it would dilute what I do too much.”

For the eventual album, Joe ended up working with Robyn and Mix Master Mike.

Catch up with DIY’s Metronomy interview, where he compares his new album to an audio pedicure. You wouldn’t get that from Josh, to be honest.
