Moon King "stoked" to be playing Sound City this weekend

This weekend marks Toronto duo Moon King’s first ever trip to Liverpool - “I’m very stoked!” says songwriter Daniel Benjamin, speaking from Portland, Oregon, where he’s enjoying a milkshake.

The band are making the trip for Sound City, where they’ll play the DIY Baltic Stage alongside Swans, Peace and their hometown friends Fucked Up. “We’ll definitely go see them. It will be almost 10 years since the first time I saw them,” Dan explains. “Also UMO, who we’re doing a few shows with in the UK before this festival.”

They’ll also be joined by the likes of The Vaccines, The Flaming Lips, Belle & Sebastian, Spring King, Gengahr, Honeyblood, Slaves, Palace and Yak.

“I love playing festivals,” Dan continues, “especially in the daytime outside, I feel like to me that’s sort of the ideal way to watch a band. They can’t hide behind a bunch of lights, you can actually see what they’re doing. So I hope people watch closely. We usually start sets with ‘Apocalypse’ which has a really long build up at the beginning that I think is pretty cool for a big crowd.

“We may have a special guest perform with us, we’ll see…”
