Nils Frahm to play Mary Anne Hobbs BBC Proms show
Frahm will be joined by A Winged Victory For The Sullen at the event later this year.
Nils Frahm and A Winged Victory For The Sullen have been announced as performers at BBC Radio 6 Music’s late night Proms event.
The collaboration between Frahm and A Winged Victory For The Sullen will be hosted by Mary Anne Hobbs, with the showcase taking place at The Royal Albert Hall on 5th August. The Proms will celebrate their 120th birthday in 2015, with tickets on general sale Saturday 16th May at 9am, here. Frahm has said:
“Friends and journalists ask me how I feel to be taking part in the Proms since it was founded over a hundred years ago. It feels very flattering and should be a highlight of my musicianship. But let me tell you that this only came through because of the amazing Mary Anne Hobbs. Thank you Mary Anne and everyone at the BBC, and please don’t harm her if I mess it up!”
Mary Anne Hobbs adds: “Nils Frahm and A Winged Victory for the Sullen have changed my life, and the lives of so many of my listeners at the BBC. They are completely re-imagining classical music for the next generation, and are building beautiful new bridges into that world. Our Prom is very much the material realisation of a dream for me. The show will have been eleven months in production, and on August 5th we will be staging a new kind of performance at the Royal Albert Hall that the Proms has never before witnessed in its 120 year history.”
Nils Frahm recently released ‘Solo’, a special album to celebrate Piano Day and raise funds to construct the world’s biggest piano. Read more on ‘Solo’ here and watch the trailer for this year’s Proms below.
