The duo have returned with their brand new album, courtesy of Mono-Ra-Rama.
Noisettes have announced plans to release their brand new, third album ‘Contact’ on the 27th August.
The London duo - made up of Dan Smith and Shingai Shoniwa - headed to America to record the follow-up to ‘Wild Young Hearts’, and have now returned with the fourteen track (including bonus!) effort.
Speaking of the album, Shoniwa had the following to say: “Some bands have a one-size-fits all mantra approach. They get together because they share identical musical tastes, then never do anything different. We’re two divas with different record collections who constantly introduce each other to new sounds, whether it’s African music, jazz, our own modern hybrid of soul music or new adventures in dance music, there always remains the spirit of rock ‘n’ roll without the clichés. For us, making music means keeping our ears open.”
“We’ve been collaborating with with some fantastic pop-smiths recently. We enjoyed tropical evenings in L.A.’s infamous Westlake studios with Will.i.am’s songwriter, Jean Baptise (‘Winner’ and ‘Never Enough’). Sometimes we’d drive off into the sunset after a session in our rental Mustang convertible and write a song or two by the highway-side with the top down, Californian style. We were flown out to write with Neyo (‘Star and ‘Free’) for a couple of weeks, he was a fan of our work and it was such an incredible experience. Other credits on the album include Chuck Harmony (‘I Want You Back’) and a heart wrenching score by Wil Malone. We had the honor of going into Abbey Roads studios for two days to cut live strings for ‘Contact’ and ‘Star’.”
“This album is very personal to me. When we were writing the album, my mum fought and won her battle with breast cancer. Like my mum, we’re survivors, we’ve had a lot of knock-backs,” says Shingai. “There’s definitely a sense of wanting to pick people up in certain moments on the album. We just had to do it, it made me aware of wanting to leave something behind, my legacy. I wanted my mum to feel like I was never going to give in to a bad situation, it reminded me of what I needed to do and how important it is to make the most of your time here on earth. It gave her hope, that’s the most important thing. It gives everyone around you hope, and people need that when they’re fighting something like that. The closer we were getting to the finishing line with the album and seeing my mum improve and winning her battle made me feel like we were giving her something to hope for and everyone needs hope.”
