Olivia Dean offers up new video for ‘Time’
The track is the first release to follow her Mercury Prize-shortlisted debut album, ‘Messy’.

Just over a month on from its original release, Olivia Dean has now shared the video for her recent single ‘Time’.
Released following her incredible appearance on the Pyramid Stage at this year’s Glastonbury, ‘Time’ doubles as the first release to follow her Mercury Prize-shortlisted debut album, ‘Messy’. Recorded in a single take, the song sees her evolve from the more mellow neo-soul of ‘Messy’ to introduce electric guitar and rock elements into the mix - a sound inspired by Tina Turner, David Bowie, and The Beatles. “It’s pretty much a completely live, one-take of me and my band just playing in a room together as we have been on tour,” Olivia has confirmed. “It feels so different from what I’ve made before, sonically of course, but also in its energy. I’m really excited about that.”
To reflect a similar spirit, her new video - which comes directed by Jake Erland - sees the Londoner accompanied by her band for a powerful performance of the track - the only catch it that it takes place right by Heathrow Airport. Naturally…
“I wanted to find a concept that visualised the frustration of having to work through life’s interruptions,” Olivia has said, of the clip. “My manager and I were thinking about how much our lives are dictated by travel and thought it would be funny to perform under a plane taking off and the chaos it would cause. Health and safety said no, so Jake [Erland] went on a plane spotting mission to see how close we could get to it. There were so many elements in our way which made the process feel challenging and alive, but Jake was really fun to collaborate with - I’m really proud of what we made.”
