Pavement announce rarities compilation series
‘The Secret History, Vol. 1’ will be the first of five re-issues, set to include essays by band members.
Following their promise of “great news coming soon” back in April, Pavement have announced a new series of rarities compilations. The first of the five part series, ‘The Secret History, Vol. 1,’ is out on August 11 via Matador Records, and collects together material from the time around the band’s debut album ‘Slanted and Enchanted’.
The 30-track record includes B-sides, rarities, and John Peel Sessions, as well as live recordings of a 1992 live concert at Brixton Academy. Though all of the tracks were previously available on Pavement’s ‘Slanted and Enchanted: Luxe & Reduxe’ re-issue, this’ll be the first time they are available on vinyl.
The double album will come with essays written by Pavement’s founding members Stephen Malkmus, and Scott Kannberg, as well as executives from Matador, Billions Corporation, and Drag City. The artwork is by Rob Carmichael, who designed the covers for Dirty Projectors’ ‘Bitte Orca’ and Animal Collective’s ‘Merriweather Post Pavillion’.
