Premiere: Listen: Wye Oak Unveil New Track, ‘Glory’
Jenn Wasner and Andy Stack’s ‘Shriek’ is out through City Slang this April.
have promised a bold, experimental new album with ‘Shriek’, which comes out 28th April through City Slang (29th April via Merge Records in the US). First came ‘The Tower’, a stark and strictly structured lead track that employed tight-wound brass instead of customary guitars. As it turns out, ‘Shriek’ is a record that’s arriving completely guitar-free. Instead, Jenn Wasner’s recent experience under the Flock of Dimes and Dungeonesse guises comes full circle.
On second taste ‘Glory’, Wasner and Andy Stack prove they’re still into the sharp, string-led hooks of previous material. Diverging from 2011’s ‘Civilian’ without getting overwhelmed by new ideas, Wasner’s on the bass, with a thick fog of flurrying synths giving a boundless, energetic backing. We’ve got the first play of ‘Glory’, which you can hear below.
Wye Oak have also announced a handful of new UK dates, taking place this June. They’re arriving for European shows this week, beginning with a sold out show at London Lexington on 20th March. Dates below the player.
Pre-order ‘Shriek’ digitally on iTunes or physically through the City Slang store.
