Premiere: Stream Shy Nature’s Debut EP In Full

London boys with the ‘make massive songs’ formula sussed-out share their first EP.

If you’re gonna go big, do it the Shy Nature way.

They’ve every intention of soundtracking giant festival tents and arenas packed to the brim. It’s not like they’ve sat down and conjured up some magic formula, but if we’re talking indie potions, Shy Nature have struck gold with a clever concoction.

Their debut EP has more hook-heavy giants than a fair few debut full-lengths ‘proper’. Opener ‘Sinking Ship’ is a sweeping statement; what follows is even grander and worthy of audiences in their thousands.

Shy Nature’s debut began ‘as a handful of simple folk songs,’ according to Will. ‘The completed songs were recorded in four separate days at our friend’s home studio, named the ‘Record Room’ after the hundreds of CDs, tapes and vinyls lining the walls. That was in February this year, when the band had no name, and no plans to play any shows either.’

Their debut song, ‘Deadly Sin’, was written’on a Megabus journey from Glasgow to London.’ It’s follow-up is a touch more professional put together.

‘It’s a record we’re really proud of,’ states Will. ’ ‘Sinking Ship’ came from a book I was reading about a mother’s sacrifice for her son. ‘Fine’ is about frustration with time wasters, ‘Washout’ about the pressures of succeeding at school and ‘A Thousand Minds’ is a child’s observation of religion and the unusual rituals that come with it. If there’s a common theme, it’s experiences of growing up, from distinct childhood memories right up to the the present day.’
