Reading 2011: White Denim: “We’ve Already Been Recording New Material”

The band have started work on their fifth album.

Their new album ‘D’ was only released earlier this year, but White Denim are already recording new material.

Speaking to DIY at Reading Festival yesterday (Friday 26th August), bassist Steve told us: ‘We’ve been touring it [‘D’] since May and we’re going to continue touring it into the Spring, but we’ve already been recording new stuff so we’ll be ready to roll on the fifth one, I guess as soon as possible. We record so much that we don’t want to hold on to it for too long, we want to release it right away and so we’re ready to release more stuff already.’

This, it turns out, is in part due to their advantageous studio set up: ‘We have a good deal with a studio in Austin so we can record whenever we want. So whenever we have an extra week, we’ll go in the studio and record the whole time. And so we’ve been doing that since January whenever we have a week or two; we have a really nice collection going.’

White Denim will play Leeds Festival today (Saturday 27th August) on the Festival Republic Stage at 7pm. Check back for the full interview later in the week.
