Reading 2013: Theme Park: “There Was A Juxtoposition”

Rain flooded into the NME/Radio 1 Stage during the ‘Jamaica’-sporting Londoners’ set.

London tropical-pop fledgers Theme Park played one of the first sets of Reading Festival’s Day 2, earlier today (24th August). Their performance was timed to perfection, in some senses. A promised storm broke out as soon as they started playing, bringing in flocks of soaked punters.

‘There was a juxtaposition there. It’s certainly suited to boosting crowd numbers,’ admitted Miles Haughton from the band, whose self-titled is out now on Transgressive.

‘When it rains, it’s so bad, everyone’s like ‘fuck it, we’re gonna have a good time’. They think ‘we spend hundreds of pounds on this ticket, we may as well make the most of it,’ continued Oscar Manthrope.

Pushed on the rumours that Dido was set to make a special appearance at Reading Festival, the band also claimed they’d ran into a chance encounter with the singer.

‘I was talking to her earlier…’, claimed Marcus. She tried to get on our stage. Someone was like ‘no, they’re not rappers!”

Theme Park arrive at Leeds Festival, NME/Radio 1 Stage, 25th August, 12.45pm. Read DIY’s live blog here.
