Royal Blood ponder possible Mercury Prize win: “Is there prize money? Food for thought”

Longtime DIY favourites Royal Blood are at London’s Roundhouse ahead of this evening’s Mercury Prize, for which their self-titled debut album - released in August via Warner - has been nominated.

Frontman Mike Kerr is very excited about the prospect of being up for the gong, especially “given who we’re in company with tonight, that really adds value,” he tells DIY from the ceremony’s red carpet.

If they do win, they’re a little nervous about what they’re going to say on stage, mind: “I’ve never been required to make a speech before in my life.” And they’ve no idea what they’d spend the prize on. “Is there prize money? Food for thought.”

Other acts nominated for the Mercury Prize 2014 include Bombay Bicycle Club, Young Fathers, Anna Calvi, FKA twigs and Jungle. The winner will be announced later this evening (Wednesday 29th October) at the Roundhouse, London ceremony.
