Ryan Adams releases new EP featuring Johnny Depp
‘No Shadow’ is available to stream online now.
Ryan Adams has released new EP ‘No Shadow’, which features the not-so-secret music talents of Hollywood movie star and long-time Adams fan Johnny Depp.
Released through Adams’ own label PaxAm as part of his Singles Series, the EP offers three brand new songs, two of which feature Depp on vocals and guitar.
Speaking about the title track on the label’s website, Adams explains, “Johnny came rumbling into PaxAm one night with this riff and an idea of what it was about- a few hour later and one take on a 2 inch 24 track tape machine later we had No Shadow… typed up on my manual typewriter and born and delivered from a simple riff we found on his i phone.
“Johnny is a real songwriter and one of the deepest guitar players out there. Thats us singing and playing and playing all the parts ourselves with just our pal Marshal Vore on drums,” he adds.
The second track, ‘It’s In My Head’, is a little more upbeat and sees Adams and Depp channel their inner rockabilly. It was created the first night they met, playing all night without saying a word. “True rock and roll moments, as they should be, unfussy and delivered with all the heart and soul we had that night,” says Adams.
Final track ‘Stoned Alone’ sees Adams ramble on for just over a minute about being stoned in a 7-11 car park, “which is groundhog day for me and most that fly with us.”
For Spotify users, the EP is available to stream below. Alternatively, you can buy it here.
