News Sam Fender wins BRITs Critics Choice Award

The singer won the prize ahead of shortlisted artists Mahalia and Lewis Capaldi.
Sam Fender is the winner of the BRITs Critics Choice Award!
Sam was announced as the winner today (7th December), winning the top prize over Mahalia and Lewis Capaldi.
On winning the award, Sam said: ““I am truly humbled to win the BRITs Critics’ Choice award. Being nominated was crazy enough, never mind winning it. I’m so grateful to everyone back home for believing, and to my band and team for all their hard work. We’ve played literally hundreds of shows this year, and we’re going to go even harder in 2019. Most importantly, a big shout to my fans. I’ve met a lot of you over the last few years and it’s truly an honour to get up and play night after night to such a wonderful bunch of people. To everyone who’s taken a punt on me so far, thank you. Here’s to next year!”
The award aims to recognise some of Britain’s future stars of recording talent Previous winner of the award include Adele (2008), Florence and the Machine (2009), Emeli Sandé (2012) and Sam Smith (2014). Last year’s award went to Jorja Smith.
The shortlist is compiled by a team of music industry professionals, including music editors of national newspapers and music and lifestyle magazines and heads of music at national TV and Radio stations.
