Scratch the surface
Samantha Urbani returns with new track ‘Go Deeper’
It’s about “how necessary visibility and accountability are”.
A couple of years ago Samantha Urbani, who fronted Friends, released a solo track called ‘1 2 3 4’, but we haven’t heard too much from her since.
No she’s back, about to properly unleash her solo project on to the world. She’s released a brand new track, ‘Go Deeper’, a burst of pop that takes inspiration from the likes of Janet Jackson, the production of Max Martin and classic boybands while still maintaining Samantha’s DIY aesthetic. But as its title suggests though, dig a little deeper and there’s a meditation on power and communication. In a statement, she said the track is about “how necessary visibility and accountability are – getting to the bottom of things, transformatively: the harder it is, the more worth it. The only way out is to go through”.
She’s also directed the single’s accompanying video herself, which veers between being fuzzy and presenting awkward, unclear angles of Samantha herself. It goes some way to highlighting the theme of visibility that punctuates the track itself.
Samantha’s also got an EP in the works, with details coming soon. Keep your eyes peeled for that one then…
