Shamir announces debut album, ‘Ratchet’

XL release is out this May.

Shamir Bailey has announced plans to release his debut album, ‘Ratchet’, on 18th May via XL Recordings.

The Las Vegas-born newcomer shared the artwork (below) for his ten-track release. He also posted art containing the following statement:

“Shamir / Ratchet / I am not fine art / I am the doodle in your copybook / Simple but never posed / Thoughtful but without intention / Vegas is the desert / which makes / Ratchet / Something of a mirage / A heat shimmer glorious / But also a little bit lost / If this is the city of sin are we already in hell? / Music is not sacred / Music is for everybody / Genre is a tool not a boundary / It doesn’t matter what you sound like / You just have to be you.”

Speaking to DIY at the start of the year, Shamir told us what to expect “a homage to all the music that I listen to.”

“I made a checklist of all the types of music and genres that I wanted to cover in the album - and I ticked it off. There’s country, dance, R&B, there’s pop. Everything for everyone,” he said.

Tracklist:

Vegas
Make A Scene
On The Regular
Call If Off
Hot Mess
Demon
In For The Kill
Youth
Darker
