Shamir performs two tracks in session for Annie Mac

Session was recored from the BBC’s Maida Vale studios.

Last night (27th May) Shamir joined Annie Mac for a session at the legendary Maida Vale studios, performing the lead single from his debut album ‘Ratchet’, ‘On The Regular’, as well as a tender cover of Kacey Musgraves Grammy award winning ‘Merry Go Round’.

In the session, ‘On The Regular’ brings even more of Shamir’s larger-than-life personality to the forefront, added quirks and flair. The cover meanwhile showcased Shamir’s more gentle side, demonstrating his impressive voice on a simple acoustic background. Shamir also chatted briefly with Annie Mac about his Las Vegas origins, his recording process and the fact that ‘On The Regular’ was basically written for a joke.

Earlier this month DIY spoke to Shamir following the release of ‘Ratchet’ about, among other things, his accidental invention of the already existing house music genre. Read the full interview here.

Shamir released his debut album ‘Ratchet’ via XL Recordings on 18th May. Listen to the full Maida Vale session here and check out the recent video of Shamir dishing out advice via his ‘Call It Off’ helpline below.
