Stream ShitKid’s vibrant, spiky new EP ‘This Is It’
The new collection is out tomorrow (19th January) via PNKSLM, and playing first as today’s Neu Pick.
Every weekday, DIY’s new music know-it-all Neu brings you one essential new release to get obsessed with. Today’s Neu Pick comes from ShitKid.
ShitKid - aka Sweden’s Åsa Söderqvist - is releasing her new EP ‘This Is It’ via Stockholm label PNKSLM tomorrow (19th January), and we’ve got the first play of the vibrant new collection as today’s Neu Pick.
Following her self-titled EP from 2016, ‘This Is It’ takes ShitKid’s sound to weirder yet poppier places, widening her scope significantly, through the bouncy ‘Oh Me I’m Never’ and sludgy ‘High Way’. It marks her out as an intriguing new voice to keep both eyes on.
Telling us about the new collection over email, Asa says: “‘This Is It’ was recorded the same way as my earlier music just also inside my Volvo V70. I was inspired by The Strokes while writing it which is how it got its name.
“‘Is This It’ was one of my favorite albums and I’ve been wanting to sing like Julian Casablancas since I heard it. I tried for this EP but in the end I guess ‘This Is It’ doesn’t sound like ‘Is This It’ at all.”
