Sia announces plans to release new album ‘This Is Acting’
Australian singer reveals new songs are “much more pop”.
Sia has announced early details of new album ‘This Is Acting’.
Speaking to NME, the elusive Australian singer revealed she has a follow up to 2014’s ‘1000 Forms Of Fear’ “ready to go” and that it will be “much more pop” than her previous material.
The ‘Chandelier’ songwriter explains her last album was released simply to get out of a publishing deal. “I was planning to be a pop song writer for other artists. But my publishing deal was as an artist so I had to put one more album out,” she says. “I didn’t want to get famous so I kept all the songs I wanted and had a lot of fun making it.”
But with the success of ‘1000 Forms Of Fear’, and with the videos for singles ‘Chandelier’ and ‘Elastic Heart’ – starring child dancer Maddie Ziegler and actor turned artist Shia Le Beouf – going viral, the singer has been inspired to write and release more of her own music.
However, she revealed ‘This Is Acting’ was named as such, “because they are songs I was writing for other people, so I didn’t go in thinking ‘this is something I would say’. It’s more like play-acting. It’s fun.”
Sia recently performed ‘Chandelier’ at the 2015 Grammy Awards, with Maddie Ziegler and actress Kristen Wiig. Earlier this month at New York Fashion Week, she collaborated with Kanye West and Vic Mensa for a new song called ‘Wolves’ which features on West’s upcoming, as-yet-untitled, seventh studio album.
