Eyes on the prize
Skepta, The 1975, Savages to perform at Mercury Prize 2016 ceremony
For the first time, members of the public can get tickets to see this year’s shortlisted acts.
This year’s Mercury Prize is shaping up very nicely, actually. 2015’s bash was plagued by a lack of performance and too much chin-stroking (something we mentioned here), but for the first time ever, members of the public can get tickets for the ceremony.
Taking place on Thursday 15th September at London’s Eventim Apollo, performers include The 1975, Savages and Skepta. Alongside a “special performance” of David Bowie’s nominated album ‘Blackstar’, the other confirmed acts are Jamie Woon, Kano, ANOHNI, The Comet is Coming and Bat For Lashes.
Since the 12-album shortlist was announced, fans have been voting online to select one of six finalists. An overall winner is then picked by a panel of judges, including Wolf Alice’s Ellie Rowsell, Jessie Ware, Kate Tempest and Radio 1 DJ Clara Amfo.
The full shortlist:
• ANOHNI - Hopelessness
• Bat For Lashes - The Bride
• David Bowie - Blackstar
• Jamie Woon - Making Time
• Kano - Made In The Manor
• Laura Mvula - The Dreaming Room
• Michael Kiwanuka - Love & Hate
• Radiohead - A Moon Shaped Pool
• Savages - Adore Life
• Skepta - Konnichiwa
• The 1975 - I like it when you sleep, for you are so beautiful and so unaware of it
• The Comet Is Coming - Channel The Spirits
