Spike Jonze makes surprise music video for Karen O
Elle Fanning stars in this two minute clip.
Acclaimed director Spike Jonze has recorded and released a surprise music video for Karen O, on the week that she releases her debut solo album ‘Crush Songs’.
The Yeah Yeah Yeahs front woman has previously worked with Jonze on ‘The Moon Song’, a track that helped soundtrack his ‘Her’ film, picking up an Oscar nomination in the process.
Jonze put together a two-minute clip for Karen, starring Elle Fanning. It was recorded during New York Fashion Week, with Fanning pirouetting around The Metropolitan Opera with the ‘Ooo’ song playing in the background.
Speaking to Vice about ‘Crush Songs’, Jonze said “they are songs made so intimately and spontaneously alone in her bedroom a few years ago that they feel more like unguarded whispers from her heart than a traditionally produced album.”
About the video itself, the director said: “It just seemed like if you have the Opera House, that song and Elle Fanning together, you shouldn’t let the opportunity go by. So we made this as a surprise gift for Karen to congratulate her on her album. She is going to see this for the first time as you do. I hope you enjoy.”
