Sports Team drop slacker-rock bonus single ‘Medium Machine’
It’s the first of seven (!) new songs set to be included on the upcoming deluxe version of ‘Boys These Days’.

Sports Team have hailed the news of a deluxe edition of third album ‘Boys These Days’ (which originally came out back in May) with a brand new single entitled ‘Medium Machine’ - a cut which, according to lyricist Rob Knaggs, is “what [Pavement] would have sounded like if [Stephen Malkmus] wanted to be Men At Work.”
Built around nostalgic, slacker-rock sensibilities, ‘Medium Machine’ is the first of seven new songs due to be featured on ‘Boys These Days (Deluxe)’ (out on 5th November via Distiller Records/Bright Antenna). Speaking about these additional tracks - which were written at the same time as the ‘Boys These Days’ demos - Knaggs has noted that “[they] fell in between two piles”.
Continuing, he explains: “We had the electro-clash material, and the Prefab Sprout influenced tracks. ‘Living In Skin’ and ‘In America’ were in the electro-clash heap. They were written in January 2023. I think I had probably heard The Dare’s ‘Girls’ and was having flashbacks to Youth Speed Trouble Cigarettes-era Kitsune compilations. I don’t think we really had it in us for a full album of electro-clash but this is the vestigial appendix of that.
“‘Germany’ and ‘Dog Country’ we just ran out of time for. At some point the working title for the album was ‘Dog Country’. I thought it was a good stand-in for suburbia. When we got to Norway to record though, it didn’t feel so urgent, and by the time we were finishing up the mixes it had been benched.”
