Stormzy shares plans for #Merky Films venture
The programme’s debut project, Big Man, will see the rapper take on his first ever lead acting role.

Stormzy has announced that he’s expanding his #Merky group of enterprises to the world of cinema with #Merky Films - a venture that aims to support new voices and powerful narratives via film and television projects which celebrate community and culture, and promote change.
The rapper - whose last album, ‘This Is What I Mean’, dropped in 2022 - already has a number of programmes operating under the #Merky umbrella, including #Merky Books, #Merky Foundation, and #Merky FC. Speaking about his latest project, he has shared: “I always say: music is my first love, but film is my second. #Merky Films is something I’ve been dreaming about for ages - a space for powerful British stories and a solid home for fresh, unexpected art. It’s a natural next step for everything we do at #Merky - sharing our stories, spotlighting important voices and making room for those who deserve to be seen and heard.”
The first project to be shared by #Merky Films will be Big Man, a short film starring Stormzy himself, and directed by Academy Award winner Aneil Karia. “For me, it’s all about the joy, spirit and fearless energy of youth - that feeling like life is one big adventure and the world’s your playground,” the musician has commented. “I hope it inspires you to dream bigger, live louder and hold on to that unapologetic energy that comes with being young.”
Big Man will be officially available to watch at 8pm BST on 18th June via YouTube; in the meantime, you can check of the film’s teaser poster below.
