Sun Drift warms the soul with ‘Funny How’ single

The sun-kissed newcomer is today’s Neu Pick.

Every weekday, DIY’s new music know-it-all Neu brings you one essential new release to get obsessed with. Today’s Neu Pick comes from Sun Drift.Zac Barfoot basks in sunlight. Under his solo guise Sun Drift, he bathes melancholy in a bright white light. On ‘Funny How’, its a repetitive lifestyle and “losing track of the time” that fall under scrutiny.“Funny how it’s the same,” he laments, an ode to monotony and the frustration it bears. Like a softer-edged Mac DeMarco, Zac twists and turns slinky, sun-kissed guitar lines around his stripped back storytelling, pushing back against that repetition with an ever-evolving backdrop. Pinning down a hook or line is like trying to hold smoke, and it’s that sense of lightness that makes ‘Funny How’ such a captivating experience. The first track to be taken from an upcoming EP, ‘Funny How’ follows last year’s ‘Tied’ EP in putting forward Sun Drift’s case for flooding dark corners with light and warmth.
