The Blood Arm Announce PledgeMusic Campaign

The Blood Arm have unveiled plans to launch a PledgeMusic campaign to raise money to fund their next release.

Following on from the release of their 2011 album ‘Turn And Face Me’, the band have already begun plans to record their next record, by setting up a campaign with the music platform.

Their next anticipated release ‘Sister City’ will be their fourth, and looks to be completely self-funded on the band’s own imprint Pau! Records. They hope to begin recording in June.

DIY spoke exclusively to frontman Nathaniel Fregeso about the project, and the decisions behind it: ‘The Blood Arm had a good deal of success. We were able to tour the States, UK and Europe for a strong couple of years riding behind the success of our single ‘Suspicious Character’ and our album ‘Lie Lover Lie’. We had a major label deal and were able to live full time as musicians. It was a great time and we were young and it was a lot of fun.’

‘All that changed. Our label went under and the money ran out and we had to go back to our day jobs in Los Angeles. To say we were in shock would be an understatement. We struggled with different managers. We asked about recording, we asked about touring. There were no answers. What happened? People still liked us, would send us messages and ask when the new record was coming out. We didn’t know. ‘

‘The only thing that didn’t change was The Blood Arm. We were (still are) great friends and love making music together. So we worked our jobs by day and wrote at night and saved up. By this time we had no manager and no record label which basically means no one to help or release anything we did record. But that was not going to stop us, we recorded after work and out of our own pockets. We played shows in L.A. and did a couple of short tours in the UK and Europe just to keep the name alive. Eventually, we had a new album, ‘Turn and Face Me.’ But it was four years later.’

‘Through friends we met our current manager, Grant Box and his Berlin-based label Snowhite. They released ‘Turn and Face Me’ and we toured behind it. By this time though we were convinced that some things had to change on our end. Four years is a long time to wait for anything and we did not want to be caught in bureaucratic mayhem EVER AGAIN. We are musicians. We want to make music, we want to record it and we want to play it in front of people. It’s seems pretty simple on paper.’

‘We needed a change. Our label was now based in Berlin, we’d had the most success in the UK and Europe, it was a natural step for us to move to where people wanted us. So, Dyan and I moved. Sold everything and made the leap of faith, we want to be musicians full time, we believe in ourselves and in our band, let’s show everyone that we can do this. A year later we have over 25 songs and are full time residents.’
