Tom DeLonge reveals he quit Blink-182 to continue UFO research…obviously

The new reason for the split is a lot funnier than the others, tbh.

When Tom DeLonge quit Blink-182 last year, the reasons for the split seemed pretty acrimonious, with accusations flying everywhere.

The band’s new album ‘California’ is released next week, with Alkaline Trio’s Matt Skiba replacing DeLonge, and a new interview with the former frontman suggests the reasons are a hell of a lot weirder and funnier than first thought.

DeLonge explained to Mic that he didn’t have time to tour as well as pursue his passion of UFO research. Really. Here’s a bit of what he said:

“I’ve always had a passion for space and the future. But when you dive into this type of material, it’s a lot more than just science and technology. It has to do with religion and cosmology and it has to do with politics and secrecy. So it’s a pretty fantastic ride.”

“When you’re an individual like me, dealing with something that’s a national security issue, and you’re being gifted with the opportunity to communicate something you’ve been passionate about your whole life — something that has the opportunity to change the world over time — being a small part of that is enormously important for my life path.”

Truly amazing. Read the full interview here.
