Two Door Cinema Club pull out of Latitude 2014 headline slot

Band cite concerns of Alex Trimble’s health - “We are devastated to have to cancel shows.”

Two Door Cinema Club have sadly had to pull out of their headline spot at Latitude Festival, due to concerns over frontman Alex Trimble’s health.

Their Friday night (18th July) billing was set to be their first as a festival headliner, where they’d be joining Damon Albarn and The Black Keys as bill-toppers for the Suffolk festival. A show at Bournemouth Academy has also been cancelled - it was set to take place on 17th July.

The band issued the following statement:

“It is with a heavy heart that we are going to need to cancel our upcoming shows at Latitude and Bournemouth Academy. Alex collapsed at Seattle airport on the way to London and has been hospitalised with a chronic stomach complaint. We are devastated to have to cancel shows that we were so looking forward to. We can only apologise and hope for your understanding at this time. Love TDCC x “

Ahead of the festival, the band’s bassist Kevin Baird heaped praise on Latitude, saying they’re “geared towards the real music lovers. That’s where bands like us are gonna start earning our stripes, in a couple of albums’ time, to push through to headline your Glastonburys and your Reading & Leeds. It’s great bands like us get given the chance to do that.”

Organisers Festival Republic have announced Lily Allen as replacement for the band. She says:

“So sorry to hear about Alex from Two Door Cinema Club. However I am more than happy to step in. I’ve never been to Latitude but I hear it’s fabulous and I can’t wait to get my heels on for some serious dancing action on Friday evening - so, so excited”.

Festival director Melvin Benn adds, “It is with deep sadness that our longstanding supporters and Friday night headliner Two Door Cinema Club have had to cancel their performance under advice of doctors. We wish Alex all the best and a speedy recovery.

We are honoured that Lily Allen is able to step in at the last minute and would like to thank her for filling the headline slot. After her show stopping performance at Glastonbury Lily was a natural choice, the Latitude audience are in for something really spectacular.”
